" Drawing flames is in itself a pleasure which is first of all selfish, the pleasure to accomplish this arduous work with colored pencil. I have wanted to draw this image of the burning police car for a long time. Surprisingly, even if it was an image imprinted in my mind for a long time, we are always caught up with the news. I then added the representation of the burning bush which echoes the text chosen for this work: an extract from the exodus from the Bible. This biblical reference in the exodus is close to the 'eye for an eye' verse found in the Bible (Exodus 21:24) or in the Torah. All of this speaks well of what we are experiencing also today."
The Burning Bush is, in the biblical tradition, the revelation of the Eternal God to Moses in the land of Midian. During this passage, Yahweh calls him from inside a bush that burns without ever being consumed. God also gives himself an ineffable name which he entrusts to Moses. This theophany takes place on Mount Horeb and is recorded in the Book of Exodus, chapter 3.
