" The sculpture drawn in this one is refering to the Memorial of the United States Marine Corps, near Arlington Cemetery. The memorial is dedicated to all the marines who have died in defense of their nation since 1775. The bronze statue reproduces the scene of raising of the American flag at the top of Mount Suribachi in Japan on February 23, 1945, during the battle of Iwo Jima. This scene is based on a famous photograph by war photographer Joe Rosenthal, 'Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima', winner of the Pulitzer Prize. For my part, looking at this symbol of the victory of the United States, I exchanged the American flag for a rose.
