“Self-Portrait with a Hole in the Head” offers an introspective take on the self-portrait. The title suggests a symbolic rupture in identity and evokes themes of vulnerability, open-mindedness, and the artist’s existential questioning. Through a deliberately restrained format, the artist creates an intimate space where psychological tension takes center stage. The work reflects Charles Hascoët’s interest in a personal mythology in which the self-portrait becomes a means of exploring the fragile boundaries between thought, memory, and perception.
