DJ Mehdi is a cult figure of the French music scene, whose influence extends far beyond the boundaries of hip-hop and electronic music. A precocious and instinctive producer, he made his mark in French rap as a teenager before revolutionizing, in the early 2000s, the meeting point between hip-hop beats and electronic energy.
As part of the Ed Banger label, he embodied a free and daring generation, able to bridge genres with rare ease.
DJ Mehdi represents music that is both sensitive and powerful, created to be experienced as much as it is felt.
Gone too soon, he leaves behind an essential body of work that remains deeply relevant, along with a lasting imprint on the history of contemporary music. Charles Hascoët pays tribute to him through this portrait.
