It is while studying at the Rhode Island School of Design that Shepard Fairey made his first poster Andre the Giant has a posse. From a mere joke, a phenomenon is born. In 2008, Shepard Fairey became worldwide famous with a series of posters in support to the Barack Obama presidential campaign which became the symbol of the election. Shepard Fairey uses the same codes as media, politics and advertisement to show their power and ubiquity in modern society. Today, Shepard Fairey is considered by the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston as the most influential street artist of our time. He has been collected by some of the most important museum collections such as Victoria and Albert Museum of London or the MOMA in New York.
