“Daniel Bell DJ” presents a portrait inspired by a cultural figure
associated with electronic music. Hascoët, himself also a DJ, refers to Daniel
Bell, a pioneering DJ and producer closely associated with the Detroit techno
scene that emerged in the late 1980s and early 1990s. His influence extends
through iconic tracks and performances that helped define a generation of
underground electronic music. By invoking Bell, the painting subtly connects
Hascoët’s own practice as a DJ with a broader cultural lineage. The portrait
thus becomes both homage and reflection, linking painting, music, and the
shared language of rhythm, atmosphere, and improvisation.
