Charles Hascoët French, 1985
14 x 12 in
A
frequent source of nostalgia and inspiration in the artist’ work, “Furby”
presents a small scale depiction inspired by a recognizable object from the
1990s contemporary popular culture. Through painterly interpretation, the
familiar toy becomes a symbolic figure within the composition. By shifting a
nostalgic object into the language of painting, the work encourages viewers to
reconsider the cultural meaning of everyday icons.
