In her work Cécile Cornet questions the home, domestic labor, and gender inequalities. Drawing on academic research nourished by statistics, history, and theoretical references (including Silvia Federici’s Wages for Housework), each work emerges from a dialogue between painting, textiles, embroidery, intimate objects, and family memory. The colorful palette, dominated by vivid reds, first attracts the viewer’s eye, only to reveal, behind an apparently joyful surface, realities that are often violent or painful. The whole body of work intertwines personal heritage and universal issues, weaving intimacy with a political dimension.
