The Magda Danysz Gallery in Shanghai is moving and opening a new space of 400 square meters dedicated to contemporary creation in its many forms, sculpture, photography, painting or video. The new Magda Danysz Gallery is the perfectly located in the heart of traditional Shanghai, near the Bund, and presents a rich and high-quality program. Named in 2016 as a "gallery of the year" in the Time Out ranking, the gallery opens a new chapter in its development with the exhibition of one of the most prominent Chinese artists: Liu Bolin.
Liu Bolin presents his famous photography series Hiding in the city, in which he disappears until he becomes invisible. The artist now broadens the field of his iconography by camouflaging not only in emblematic urban decorations but also in famous classical paintings such as Delacroix's Liberty Guiding the People. Liu Bolin unveils his sculptures made from technological materials recovered on mobile phones and computers. Chip cards, screens, and processors create sculptures in anthropomorphic shapes that aim to make us reflect on the place of man in this society led by new technologies.
The artist, who is a master in the art of camouflage, perfectly illustrates the bridge created by the Magda Danysz gallery between China and France since its installation in Shanghai in 2009. After having "hacked" the National Assembly in 2015, collaborated last May with the French star JR in a performance at the Louvre Pyramid. The two artists disappeared in front of the Pyramid.
Through these eight years of activity in Shanghai, the Magda Danysz Gallery has become a reference on the Chinese artistic scene. It is one of the highlights of the cultural life of the city and stands out by a real will to produce exhibitions of great extent without ever ceasing to surprise us. This new space marks the beginning of a new adventure!
