YZ I La place des femmes dans l'art urbain

Flow Cultural Center, Lille
As part of the professional day “Crossed Perspectives: The Place of Women and Dialogue Between Artistic Disciplines in Urban Art,” organized at Le Flow in Lille, artists, researchers, and professionals from the field come together to examine the current developments and challenges of urban art. This meeting offers a moment of collective reflection on artistic practices in public space and on how they can evolve toward more inclusive and representative models.

One of the key moments of the day is the presentation of the study dedicated to the place of women in urban art, a research project conducted by the Fédération de l’Art Urbain. This study aims to provide a clear overview of the representation of women in this artistic field, which remains largely dominated by male figures. It highlights the structural, social, and symbolic obstacles that can limit the recognition of women artists, while also proposing concrete avenues to encourage greater equality in programming and professional practices.

Artist YZ, also known as Yseult Digan, an engaged figure in contemporary urban art, actively contributes to this reflection. Through her artistic practice and her involvement in collective initiatives within the field, she questions memory, representation, and the visibility of women in public space. Through this study and the discussions surrounding it, she helps open an essential dialogue about the visual narratives that shape our cities and about the need to bring forward more diverse voices in urban art.

This professional gathering therefore provides a space for discussion and exchange between artists, curators, researchers, and institutions. By bringing together field experience and critical analysis, it helps shed light on the current dynamics of the sector and encourages new perspectives for a more equitable urban art scene that reflects the diversity of viewpoints and stories that inhabit public space.
