Tanc - New Wave

Villa Molitor is a private artists'' residency program in the heart of the 16th arrondissement in Paris curated by Magda Danysz. Villa Molitor welcomes the artist Tanc with his series of new paintings entitled "New Wave". At the Villa Molitor Tanc wanted to continue the experiment he has initiated last winter in Korea and pursues since then.

Born in 1979, Tanc is a painter and artist, living and working in Paris. Influenced by the great masters of abstract expressionism, his work is recognized by the general public, thanks to the singular lettering technique he developed.

Tanc chose to invest the Villa Molitor to present his new series of paintings, from a performance in the Seoul Museum of Contemporary Art where an exhibition on street art was taking place. The artist achieves his famous "automatic writing" paintings, he propels his creative instinct and finds a new field of expression with colors, whereas all was rather in black and white in Korea. In this regard, the artist explains: "I could not really use color because I was convinced that the black ink on the blank page was the only possible direction. I felt like I was going around in circles, repeating myself. "

Yet today the artist explores a new direction, he rediscovers the color. At the Villa Molitor and through color, Tanc spreads his painting with great brushstrokes, creating an abstract canvas where everything is united and transformed into a single moment of grace. It is this new wave that he presents a series of 18 paintings all produced for the occasion during his artist residency. Out from this great experience a film could have been made, or a book, yet it will be an exhibition.
