“When you simplify the artistic language, there is no more room to tell stories. Your message should be emotion.“
Jan Kalab
The exhibition at the Danysz Gallery – whose title is the English translation of Schopenhauer’s treatise on color: Ueber das Sehn und die Farben – traces the development of Czech artist Jan Kalab’s work in the recent years.
Whether round, oval, deformed, unstructured, stretched, multiplied, Jan Kalab plays with circles and their imperfections to reveal endless variations around depth, time and movement. He creates his own frames, and thus lends himself an infinite field of possibilities. His work on curves gives rise to a constantly renewed dialogue between structure and perception.
