"Comic books are the oldest form of expression I know. My brother and I were very creative. We would draw characters and then make up lots of stories."- Rakajoo
To mark the release of Rakajoo's first graphic novel on March 25, Danysz Gallery presents “Entre les cordes” (Between the Ropes), a major multidisciplinary project that marks a turning point in the Parisian artist's career. Inspired by his own experiences without being strictly autobiographical, the book, published by Casterman, explores the themes of adolescence, friendship, and conspiracy in the heart of Paris and Aubervilliers. In parallel with these events, Rakajoo is unveiling a mural measuring several hundred square meters at Boxing Beats, marking a return to his roots at the club where he got his start.
The exhibition “Entre les cordes” (Between the Strings) offers an exceptional immersion into the artist's creative process. The Danysz Gallery unveils the original comic book panels, the true genesis of the work, in dialogue with a selection of previously unseen paintings that sublimate scenes of everyday life and moments of sporting tension. This dialogue highlights the continuity of his style and shows how his paintings are inspired by the rhythm of the comic book to form a coherent whole.
The graphic novel becomes a work of art, the major paintings used as covers are revealed in large format oil paintings, and the echo resonates from one place to another like an invitation to make the journey to Aubervilliers to discover the immense mural.
