"Floral architecture serves as a powerful metaphor for the resilience and adaptability of nature within the modern urban landscape."
- Saman and Sasan Oskouei
Danysz Gallery is pleased to present Flora Urbanica, a new exhibition by Iranian-born brothers Saman and Sasan Oskouei, also known as Icy & Sot. Born in Tabriz and now based in Brooklyn, these multidisciplinary artists have carved out a distinctive voice in contemporary art, blending social engagement with a poetic exploration of natural forms. Known for their works addressing themes of borders, memory, and environmental issues, the Oskouei brothers invite us into a subtle reflection on resilience in nature and its connection to urban environments.
In the face of climate emergencies and the gradual disappearance of ecosystems, Flora Urbanica offers an alternative vision: one in which nature, rather than vanishing, infiltrates, adapts, and intertwines with urban architecture. Through paintings, sculptures, and installations, the artists transform organic motifs into abstract visual elements, blurring the boundaries between the artificial and the natural.
The exhibition showcases a variety of mediums—including oil painting, wooden and steel sculptures, and textile works created in collaboration with their mother, Sima Bahramghanad, in Iran. These embroideries, inspired by botanical forms and rooted in ancestral craftsmanship, weave an intimate connection between generations and geographies, embedding artistic creation in a tradition of transmission and resistance.
