" The text of the drawing, Disney-style, is in Italian to refer to the origins of Pinocchio and Gepetto. Pinocchio is a very present-day character. Here the metaphor refers to these birds who shit on politicians and those who tell us that clouds, like those from Chernobyl, stop at the border. There is almost a funny situation. This ability to draw things that are both funny and serious is something I admire in artists like David Shrigley. It always offers multiple ways of reading.
In this drawing the pineapple-skull is also something that echoes my previous series. I had painted and glued it in the Caribbean to draw attention to companies like Delmonte who offer pineapples all year round, but by sacrificing the lives of children who kill themselves at the task of cuting them. I like the idea of bringing an almost naive reference to something serious, without preaching. "
