Charles Petillon French, 1973
Charles Pétillon’s work plays with perception, space, and the ephemeral, and this installation is no exception. Suspended in the heart of a dense forest, a cluster of white balloons forms an organic, cloud-like shape, defying gravity as if levitating. The stark contrast between the floating, luminous mass and the deep greens and browns of the woodland enhances the surreal effect. The shape appears in motion, like a breath or an energy release, blurring the boundaries between the natural and the artificial. Through this piece, Pétillon questions the presence of the intangible in familiar landscapes, evoking themes of transformation, memory, and fleeting moments in time.
