“Christ
aux bichons” (Christ with Bichons) presents a deliberately dissonant pairing
between sacred imagery and domestic symbolism. The reference to Christ evokes
centuries of Western religious painting, while the presence of bichon dogs
introduces a familiar and almost playful element. This juxtaposition creates a
shift in perception, inviting the viewer to reconsider the authority and
emotional charge traditionally associated with sacred figures. The medium of
oil on canvas allows Hascoët to build rich tonal contrasts and painterly
textures, reinforcing the tension between reverence and irony that defines the
composition.
