“Messenger”
is an oil painting on canvas measuring 190 by 200 cm, produced in 2026. The
large format allows the artist to construct a layered pictorial space in which
the central figure, the artist himself, appears reclining with his dog. As in
many of Hascoët’s works, the scene carries an autobiographical dimension,
though it functions more as a metaphor than a literal depiction of personal
experience. A perched owl and a sky filled with flying saucers introduce
symbolic elements into the composition. Traditionally associated with wisdom
and night vision, the owl may act as a quiet observer or messenger between
worlds. The flying saucers evoke the unknown and the intrusion of imagination
into everyday life, suggesting ideas, signals, or memories crossing the
artist’s inner landscape. Through expressive brushwork and a dreamlike
atmosphere, the painting balances intimate reflection with a sense of cosmic
narrative.
