Huang Rui, a pioneer of the Chinese avant garde in Wenzhou
Epoch Art Museum
Until December 14,2025, Huang Rui presents two major works at the Epoch Art Museum in Wenzhou as part of the exhibition Abstract Interventions. The show highlights one of the key figures of contemporary Chinese art, an artist whose trajectory has continually explored form, color and artistic freedom.
A cofounder of the legendary Stars group, Huang Rui was among those who, as early as 1979, opened new paths in a rapidly transforming cultural landscape. Influenced by a wide range of movements, from Expressionism and Fauvism to abstraction and performance, he has built a deeply personal language where experimentation remains central.
In Wenzhou, the artist presents Absence of Peace a (Red) (2014), a monumental work playing on the tension between material, structure and void, along with Four Yellow (2014), a polyptych exploring chromatic resonance.
A rare opportunity to rediscover the depth of an artist whose aesthetic commitment has influenced several generations.
