Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper

Liu Bolin, an exceptional performance before Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper
In November 2025, Chinese artist Liu Bolin created an extraordinary performance in front of The Last Supper, inside the historic refectory of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan. The moment was exceptional in every sense, both symbolically and artistically, marking one of the most striking interventions of his career.
Using his iconic method of meticulous camouflage, Liu Bolin blended his body into the architecture and the masterpiece itself, revealing the invisible through disappearance. His gesture, suspended between erasure and revelation, invites a profound reflection on visibility, identity and our relationship to history and collective memory.
Performing before such a monumental work as The Last Supper brings a unique resonance. It is not only a tribute to Renaissance art but a living dialogue between past and present. By painting himself into the colours, shadows and rhythms of the space, Liu Bolin transforms the room, the fresco and the viewer into a single, breathing environment.
This rare and deeply symbolic moment shows the extent to which Liu Bolin’s practice transcends simple image making. His performance reframes a sacred icon of Western art, offering it a new layer of meaning and a renewed perception.
We are pleased to share a selection of images capturing this exceptional intervention, one that reveals both the audacity and the poetic power of Liu Bolin’s art.
