"The Surrealists used pen and brush to bring their visions to life. In this new century, our brush is digital, our canvas is virtual, and our ink is made of data.”

“There will come a day when images will replace man, and he will no longer need to be, but to look. We will no longer be living, but seeing.”
- André Breton -
Where automatic writing explored psychic depths through words and free associations, the trio has seized on Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) technology to visually explore the mysteries of the mind and the richness of its creative potential. Obvious conducted its own experimental research in collaboration with the ICM to map the brain activities of artists during intensive training sessions, establishing a link between the mapping of our neural activities and the images we produce within our brains. These sessions collected precise data on brain responses to visual stimuli, creating a rich database that can be exploited by advanced artificial intelligence algorithms to interpret brain data and generate images in response. The IMAGINE series is a series of works created using the artists' brainwaves collected in MRI scans, then interpreted by image-generation algorithms, and dedicated to a surrealist process of creating directly from thought. By moving directly from mental space to image, the artists challenge the traditional boundaries of creativity.
