Vhils Portuguese, b. 1987

This side panel from a decommissioned metro
carriage, emblematic of the daily journeys that define metropolitan life, is
meticulously carved and painted to reveal a human eye and fragments of a face,
rendered in Vhils's characteristic deconstructive style with blue and earthy
tones. The raw, weathered surface of the metal, perforated and abraded, becomes
a canvas that bears witness to the transitory nature of urban existence and to
the narratives buried within the city's infrastructure.
