Born in 1984 in one of China's oldest cities, Xi'an, aaajiao is the virtual persona of Shanghai- and Berlin-based artist Xu Wenkai. Active online as a media artist, blogger, activist and programmer, his work focuses on the use of data and its various forms of expression. Many of aaajiao's works address new ideas, controversies and phenomena around the Internet, with specific projects focusing on the processing of data, the blogosphere and China's Great Fire Wall. In his recent projects, he has extended his practice to various disciplines - among which architecture, topography and design - to capture the pulse of a young generation whose lives are shaped by technology and social media.
