Maleonn, whose real name Maliang, is a Chinese artist born in 1972 in Shanghai, where he lives and works. Born into an artistic family (his mother was an actress and his father, the director of the main Shanghai Opera), he attended art school such as Shanghai Huashan Art Shool since his earliest childhood. After graduating in Arts from the University of Shanghai, he worked as director of advert. In that way, he developed his technical as photographer and videographer, constituent elements of his work.
Indeed, using digital resources and manuel techniques to re-colorization, Maleonn stages, through photography and video, whimsical and mischievous universe where wild imagination serves a metaphorical narrative, often tinged irony. Many symbolic related to the history, the Chinese culture, the Cultural Revolution (he lived it), reside in his compositions. Maleonn is, at once, a theater set designer, sculptor of the senses, a visuel poet and a painter of emotions.
Since 2004, the artist has received numerous awards and had published many publications. His work was the subject of major exhibitions in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Madrid, Brussels, Roma, New York, Chicago, Toronto...
