A white Space Invader stands at the center of a brown ground, scattered with turquoise and cream patches that form a camouflage pattern. The invader, always recognizable by its shape, nevertheless blends into the background, as if hiding in plain sight.
This work belongs to the “Camouflage” series, begun in 2023, in which Invader places his emblematic figure among military patterns. The choice is rich in meaning. Military digital camouflage is itself made of pixels, and it suggests the idea of infiltration, at the heart of the artist’s practice, as he installs his mosaics in the city without permission. Here the mosaic becomes a game of hide-and-seek between the image and its surroundings.
The ceramic tiles, very simple in color and shape, are a reminder that all of Invader’s work rests on one rule: one pixel, one tile.
