Co-produced with the Fondation des Femmes and curated by Caroline Chenu and Anne-Cécile Mailfert, "Bonnes Mères" takes visitors at MUCEM through four millennia of representations of motherhood, from the mother-goddesses of Mediterranean antiquity to often-silenced contemporary realities such as the mental load, perinatal grief and maternal exhaustion. Alongside works by Louise Bourgeois, Annette Messager and Niki de Saint Phalle, Cécile Cornet is part of a new generation of artists, for whom thread becomes a metaphor for connection and emancipation. The exhibition, featuring around 350 works, opens with a piece by Prune Nourry and closes with Joana Vasconcelos's monumental heart sculpture.
